Great game Card! Random thoughts:
- If Brink was sick, why would she be sitting next to the players and the coaches? Seems awfully strange that Prechtel was at the end of the bench staying away from everyone, but Cam was throwing up and then mixing in with everyone. Sick but not contagious = food poisoning? Whatevs.
- Haley and Lexie return to form!
- Seems like 4 starters are pretty much locked. Cam, Haley, Lexi, Lacie. I'm really hoping Jump sticks as the 5th starter. Many noticed that the ball was moving faster and generally we played faster. Hannah may have a lot to do with that. Anna holds it and is more methodical. Hannah either passes it or shoots it and makes that decision quickly. I love that lineup and hope she sticks with it.
- Playing fast is so much fun when it works. There were times when Hannah was sprinting to the corner, Lacie had the outlet and was out in front and Cam, Lexi, and Haley were all beating their opponent down the court. We got a great shot in transition every time. That group can fly. And Belibi and Anna can run the court great too!
- Most of the bench didn't look very good today, with the exception of Bosogna who helped herself a lot. This group of frosh could be really good in a few years. Demetre is an awesome shooter. Kiki has great talent, but has to finish those layups! Jana just isn't there yet. She's a step slow, made some rough passes, and got blown by on defense too. She can still get there, but IMO there's a pretty big gap she needs to close to be a factor this year. She needs to keep at it so she can be a factor next year and after. I continue to root for her as I'm a big fan of point guards who can also shoot.
- The +/- is really telling. Lexi(+32), Lacie & Haley(+27) and Hannah(+26) followed by Cam at +19 in 9 minutes! Belibi was in with the bench when we went backwards, so maybe that explains why she was only +3 in a blowout game. Then there's the bench - all negative except Kiki who played a bunch with the starters. That really shows the gap between the top players and the bench. There are real implications if Tara just subs in players "to get them experience". I think she's doing a good job finding minutes for some of them (i.e. Demetre and Kiki against the Gonzaga zone) where they can be successful. And it's not a big deal where the games won't be at risk, like the next two games, so the bench should get some great time. But in tight games, I don't think it should be a surprise that a lot of these underclassmen aren't seeing time.
