Agree it is a weird choice, unless they mean hiring him as offensive coordinator, but I doubt he will step down from a head coaching position.

Not a Taggart fan, but to be fair, he inherited disaster programs at Western Kentucky and South Florida and made them respectable before leaving (from 0-12 the year before he arrived to 7-5 in three years at Western Kentucky and from 3-9 the year before he arrived to 10-2 at South Florida in four years). His Oregon gig was too short for any kind of performance assessment, while the FSU stint (not even two years) was truly bad, but the Seminoles haven't had a winning season since Jimbo Fisher's last year (7-6) in 2018. If he fails to get FAU back to the levels Lane Kiffin achieved in 2019 (11-3), then he may find himself out of coaching for good.
My take on Willie is that he is fine for the Western Kentuckys of this world but is out of his element at a Power 5 conference.
A little like Buddy who failed at Stanford but has done very well at Dartmouth.
