I hadn't really thought about the schools (effectively) forcing scholarship players out as a way to make room for transfers in.
Any idea how they're doing that (assuming it is happening)?
Can it be as bad as, "You were late for practice by 5 minutes. You're off the team!"
Or just a pink slip with no reason required? Or what?
no real info but I would guess that for some being told "you won't be playing next year" would encourage at least some to try and find somewhere else to play...
Nearly every school in the country is starting to do this now. As far as I know it's indeed the "you won't be playing next year" line (or, if you're on the team and you see a 5* whale coming in at your position, the writing can be seen on the wall). Harbaugh did this at the earliest opportunity with his "steak eaters" once they'd graduated. By the way, it's even worse and way more common in MBB. Mercenaries everywhere.
Players that get the boot for "violating team rules" usually aren't being pushed out to make room, but have actually done something warranting disciplinary action...failing classes, failing drug tests, criminal activity, etc.
I'm still wondering whether reduced playing time might be an issue with Jones and Peat. We know Shaw is very high on E.J. Smith. Wonder if he indicated Smith would be getting alot more carries. (Of course, he has to stay healthy, which has been a challenge)
