I don't think the issue is message board mentality finding its way to sports columnist pages. It is the fact this is (I believe) the first real harsh column I've seen written about Tedford. Sure there have been ones written that point out how he has to do better, but this one actually called him out. Cohn's sentiment has existed on message boards for several years, but it's now become so obvious to everyone, that it is now safe for a Bay Area scribe to rip the guy.
If California was in say Alabama, Tedford would have been ripped to shreds years ago. Cohn's column is the first of many similar form others to come, IMO. In fact, my suspicion is things are going to get so bad this year that one of the columns to come is going to call on Tedford to resign.
