I think the team missed Jones when UCLA went zone. She has the size and ability to dribble into the zone or to flash to the FT line to take a pass and break down the defense. Stanford seemed a bit lost without her at that point. Otherwise, her absence was no big deal against an overmatched and undersized team.
I regretted that Jones was unable to play because it would have been my first chance to watch her play in person. This was the first time Stanford had played at Pauley in front of fans since 2019.
It was also perhaps the last time I will be able to watch Wilson and the Hulls in person and appreciate the relentlessness with which they play the game. It is even more evident in person vs. on tv and sets the tone for the entire team.
Also did you notice Prechtel get the ball in the low post in the 4th quarter? She made a couple of moves and created enough space to get off a shot which came up short. But it certainly appeared to me that it was a part of her game that is weak but which she had been working on in practice.
