*  Actually, at most schools it is probably raising $$.  Fortunately for Bernie (and other Stanford ADs), that is much less of a concern.

Fundraising is a concern because a) Bernie spent like a drunken sailor on football & MBB in particular while Pac-12 revenues were declning, b) sadly his personal bailout fund passed away recently, and c) Bernie has damaged the relationship with former athletes in particular with his awful handling of the cutting varsity sports and he can't be trusted to fix that.
