But, TC, except for a few posts, this thread is about gentle ribbing of a rival, not a claim that one cannot get a great education there. The SNAFUs are a feature of any large bureaucratic organization (like the DMV), and if you don’t think that the Stanford bureaucracy can’t be a nightmare, you haven’t dealt with it.

+1 to all of this. I've got a degree from the Weenies in addition to the Farm, as well as one from community college, and my education was just as good at my community college. That said, C.al is a bureaucratic hellhole that subjected my graduate student life to one long unending series of petty indignities, and for that reason alone, I'd strongly encourage anyone with the choice of Stanford vs. C.al to choose Stanford unless the program they want is much better at C.al or their financial aid offer is significantly stronger.
