When pressed, and especially, when double teamed into a trap, the answer is to pass.  When coming up the floor Unharassed, I think dribbling is the right way to go, and safer than passing the ball.  If coming up the court defended but not double teamed, I think it might be good to look to pass, though you have to be careful lest the dribbler pick up their dribble and have trouble finding someone to pass to.
