You'd never convince the vast majority of soccer fans, but I've long thought that the size of the goal should be increased. Strictly on a probabilistic basis, it would increase the percentage of offensive possessions that result in goals. It would also require defenses to come out farther to prevent longer shots, thereby increasing space near the goal, analogous to how the 3-point shot in basketball decreases congestion in the lane. And it would no longer make a two-goal lead almost insurmountable. With a larger goal, it would be much more likely that "turtling" like Stanford did for 20-30 minutes against UCLA would be punished, as the best "defense" would be ball possession and more goals.
