How can Stanford recruit a new coach until it has a strategy for football going forward?
What competent coach would accept the job without a roadmap from the administration?

Stanford should hire a coach who has a strategy for football going forward, not someone who's going to execute a roadmap from on high from a bunch of @$$clowns who don't know the first thing about football much less college athletics. I also think there are many coaches who would jump at the chance. Look at what coaching Stanford has done for the ones over the last 25 years who have been successful:
- Willingham went on to coach ND. No he didn't do well there, but his success here led to that opportunity
- Green went to the NFL and had mixed results. But again, his success here led to that opportunity
- Harbaugh took the Niners to a Super Bowl, resurrected Michigan from mediocrity, and is on cusp of making the playoffs
- I hope Shaw goes on to have success elsewhere, and that it begins on Nov 27

Landscape has changed. One way portal and NIL are massive factors.  Agree with Chrisk, and I’ve said it before, first thing I’d question and research if asked to interview is what, if any, administrative support I’d have.  Harbaugh certainly had support  under Bowlsby.  Going forward with Muir?  Who knows. 

Asking for administrative support has nothing to do with “executing a roadmap” from assclowns or anyone else. Chances of winning without it drop.

I’d be very curious to know, from anyone on this board with true knowledge on the subject, what can be expected from Admin.  Somehow being able to bring players in through the portal would help.  Course you also need to run a program that players want to come to.  Chicken and egg.

Right on, Lex - If anyone on this board really knows the thinking of the BoT, the President and Provost as to the future of the football program, I don't think they are talking on this board. Our academic standards, current transfer rules, and probable lesser NIL deals probably makes us less attractive as a coaching stop and a place to play for the really good guys coming out of high school.  But maybe all that will change, but who really knows at this point.  It would really be nice to put this all behind us and figure out how to support whatever comes next.
