Pulisic's momentum carried him into the goalie as the latter sprawled across the goal trying to make the save. The injury was caused by the goalie's left knee hitting Pulisic in the abdomen when Pulisic ran into him in a T-bone collision.
For all the politically related build-up leading up to the game, there weren't that many rough or malicious fouls during the game -- if you want to see those, watch how Serbia defended against Brazil's Neymar. Yes, there was a lot of shirt grabbing (both ways) and the Iranians dove a lot trying to draw fouls, I didn't think it was that violent a game.
