Not a big footie fan -- even after living in the UK for three years -- and have been soft boycotting this tournament given the absurd host selection, but even I couldn't keep away from this. First 20 minutes or so were slow, but the momentum swings after that were wild. And hard to think of a more scripted ending than Messi getting his World Cup trophy and Mbappe getting the golden boot, each of whom most deserving of their respective prizes.
Watched in a bar in Brooklyn and you'd have thought it was Europe for how totally packed with soccer fans it was. Will be curious to see how sports fandoms evolve over the next 20 years - I think I'd rather be investing in soccer football than football football going forward.
