Yup, the substitute-coach-win-credit question gets asked often and the answer is the record (for better or worse) sticks with the head coach until he is replaced.
One notable instance came when the Warrior's Steve Kerr sat out the start of the season and his assistant, Luke Walton, coached the team to 24-0. The NBA actually publicly addressed the issue and, as expected, the wins went to Kerr. NCAA records are their own animal but ... not THAT different. Auriemma's 2-Game flu won't help Tara in their head-to-head career wins race.

Too bad this approach doesn't apply to a coach taking a year off to coach the Olympic team while her assistants guide the team for a year, assistants she had trained and players she had recruited and coached before she left!
