If Stanford has any chance of going to the Rose Bowl, it obviously needs some luck on the national scene, but it also will need to top OSU and $¢ in the conference standings, assuming Stanford loses to Oregon but wins out otherwise (and also assuming Oregon wins out and goes the NCG).
As much as we like a high-ranked $¢, given that we beat them, seems to me we want them to lose to Arizona, which would give them four conference losses (1 to us, 1 to Zona, and 2 to Oregon). If they don't lose to Arizona, then I'll be rooting for ND, I hate to say.
OSU's tougher, less clear-cut, I think. We obviously want them as high-ranked as possible when we face them in two weeks, but we also want them, if possible to have 3 losses, should we be up agst. them for the R.B. I mean, if Stanford and Oregon beat the Beavers, they'd be 10-2 and we'd be 9-3. Even though we beat them, the R.B. could still pick them over us, no? If they get past UW this weekend and ASU the next, they're all but assured of going 10-2 at worst. Tough call as to whether we should root for them to lose one more, and watch their rankings lower, or hope they go undefeated before they face us, figuring we'd beat them out for the R.B.
Thoughts?
