Yes, this is the ultimate test. We have had this tough stretch of games and have three games this week on a quick turnaround.
I would like to see Tara give Prechtel, Betts, Belibi, and Bosgana 20+ minutes (or close to it) in this game. The first three are Colorado natives so it would be nice to give them extra PT at their home state, especially if they have family and friends in attendance. More importantly, we can expect an ugly, physical game from CU. Prechtel and Betts both have the bulk and physical strength to push bakc and prevail. Belibi and Bosgana are very aggressive. These four can match and exceed CU's aggressiveness and physicality.
Although I have advocated for our 2 AA's to carry load down the stretch and thorugh the tourneys, I also think this would be a good game to give Cam and Haley (and Jump) some rest. They have been really putting out a great deal of effort and PT lately. And with the short turnaround, they could use a "light" game" and be ready for Utah. Also, no need to subject them to a full or almsot full game of banging from CU players.
I would start Brink, Prechtel, Jones, Jump, and Lepolo. On O, Prechtel would either bring out one of CU's posts to give Brink more room down low and open up the paint or she would have open 3 point shots. On D, the two would be a nightmare for CU trying to score in the paint. Brink should play enough minutes at the start ot get into the flow of the game, but then replace her with Betts. Rotate in Belibi and use Brink selectively. I would not use Kiki much at all - I think she would be more effective against Utah. Same with Jones; get her in the flow and then sub in Bosgana for her. Would also like to see a good amount of Lepolo, Nivar, and Emma-Nnopu - but not those three at the same time. Either Bosgana or Demetre need to be in when two of those three are on the court.
I believe that we can and will win with more PT for our bench and less reliance on Brink, Jones, and Jump. Even with our three best scorers, we likely won't score as high particularly at CU's place. Rather, we should out-physical and out-aggressive CU - beat them down and impose our will. And I'm confident our bench players will score once they get into the flow. However, it's also important that we have quickness and intensity/good D on the perimeter as Cu has quick, good scoring guards. We will control the paint, and it's equally important not to give CU much space on the outside and to have ballhandlers not committing turnovers.
