So far neither team is playing terribly well. I'll focus on Stanford: relative to the standards I've seen earlier this season, or in seasons past, they're well below. The passing is connecting, but not crisp. The ball needs to move quickly in order to keep it, let alone get a look at goal.
Defensively, UCLA's finding a lot of space when they have the ball. Fortunately they are exploiting it in the most naive way possible: dribble in a straight line, towards...something. Still, the Stanford formation is leaving them space; the formation is supposed to control the ball to compensate, which...isn't happening.
Hopefully they pick it up in the second half.
