I did not want to imply Ohio State takes a BCS slot rather their winning creates BigTen problems clogging up the system. So essentially their winning acts to spoil the BigTen at-large possibilities. Their winning clogs up the selection process that favors the big schools. Good catch.
At the moment the BigTen Conference Game winner will likely just barely be in the top 14. Several other marginal BigTen teams need to face Ohio State or other strong teams in the conference. So as long as Ohio State keeps winning it is unlikely the BigTen will get an at-large bid.
There are 4 at-large bids open. SEC will get one, for sure. Notre Dame will get one too, for sure.
In the end the Big East and the BigTen will not get at-large bids.
So the last two at-large bids will be settled between the ACC, the Big12 and the Pac-12.
The Big12 has K-State for sure. And then several two loss teams that need to play each other still. However, their conference strength is crazy. So in my mind they have the third invite, it is just a matter of determining the team.
Upsets in the conference championship game in the ACC would be bad news. Without that upset the ACC has two possible teams at the moment - Clemson and Florida State. They both have very tough schedules and one will get the automatic bid if things go correctly. Both play good SEC teams, so my guess is one will fall away in time.
If the ACC goes the Pac-12 way there would be one invite, and only one conference to take the slot.
It really is not out of the realm that the winner of Oregon State vs. Stanford is going to get the last BCS at-large slot. It won't matter if the team has a big fan base or that other teams are more desirable. In the end, it could be that the second Pac-12 team is the only option.
November 10th becomes H...!!!
