Evidence for this? Remember last year's Oregon game, with Andrew Luck, with College Gameday, with a shot at the national championship on the line, hyped up around the country for weeks? If you are a Stanford fan, you are coming out for that game, right? Nope - conservatively, 30-40% of the stands full of Oregon fans.
This is not evidence. This is conjecture. I was at the game and believe your "conservative" estimate is off by a bunch.

Ok, to match the high editorial standards of this forum I should qualify that this evidence is based on my personal qualitative observations and I did not sit at the door to count the number of fans of each side. However, in my section (upper level goal, not the visitors corner), it was easily 50/50, and as you got into the corner/endzone Oregon fans were clearly the majority. I suppose you may have had a much different experience in the more expensive seats with longer-time season ticket holders. Regardless, my point was that for a major, successful collegiate program in a home game of that stature, you would expect a packed house of home fans, and that is not what we had. As such, I find it unrealistic to expect a sellout crowd for a game like Wazzu regardless of whether we were 5-2 or 7-0.
