Hard to imagine that, once upon a time, the governor was Ronald Reagan and one of the senators was George Murphy. Okay, here comes the Stanford connection: Was Alan Cranston, Stanford class of 1930-something, the other senator? Or did he take Murphy's seat?

John Tunney took Murphy's seat.  Cranston was elected in 1968, and [I believe] Murphy lost to Tunney in 1970, so Murphy and Cranston did overlap a little.

But, of course, it was all Dawkins' fault...  ;D
