I skimmed Richard Saller’s bio and was somewhat relieved — he was the former Dean of the school of arts and humanities, which I would think would be one of the top qualifications on campus, and he is also the former provost at the University of Chicago.
People are focused on the departures of MTL and Drell but normally, you keep a president until a new one is found and normally you have a provost to help you get through the transition, but Stanford feels like it will have a bit of a vacuum during a critical and challenging time for the university.
Sallers sounds like he should have at least some clue about the behemoth he will be stewarding. Hopefully the BoT can do a better job this time.
Drell may stay around for a bit, from the press release on her resignation
Quote:Drell, who became provost in February 2017, will step down in the fall quarter, as soon as a successor appointed by President Marc Tessier-Lavigne can be in place.
