The incessant handwringing over Shaw is really getting old. He is hands down the greatest coach in the history of Stanford Football. Full stop.

Were the last few years rough? Absolutely. Was it past time for him to go when he finally did? Yes. But the three conference titles, two Rose Bowl wins and four top 10 finishes represent some of the best memories of my experience as a sports fan. I get the feeling some people on this board would trade those for a few more Blockbuster Bowls in the later years.

way back in time Pop Warner was 1-1-1 in Rose Bowls, and his teams did win 78% of their games in his nine years as head coach...in his last five years the team did not appear in a Rose Bowl, but they also never had a losing record....
