Here's an interesting article on how depth perception works. The brain combines a large number of cues, many of which need only one eye. 

Don't stop reading with the title, which the article shows to be a question that embeds a wrong assumption.

Of course it's still remarkable and inspiring to hear about someone who plays basketball and shoots well with just one eye. In addition to less depth perception, of course she has less peripheral vision towards one side.

Fascinating article, CompSci!  I had no idea there was so much more to depth perception than parallax vision.
