Why would they think that? Did something happen to plant those seeds?
Most programs with openings are not going to be like....Michigan. Programs looking for new coaches will generally have teams that struggled, failed to meet expectations and/or can't afford to pay coaches the top rates. For programs in those situations it is best for the new coach to have at least some experience coaching a program going through tough times, ideally navigating those challenges in this new transfer portal environment. Enter Taylor.
If Taylor can get a 2010 type season at Stanford in the next year or two he will likely move on too. That's the industry. I am amazed that he tried after season #1, but he most certainly was not the first Stanford football coach to shop for NFL or higher NCAA offers after year 1 on The Farm.
