If Taylor can get a 2010 type season at Stanford in the next year or two he will likely move on too.   That's the industry.   I am amazed that he tried after season #1, but he most certainly was not the first Stanford football coach to shop for NFL or higher NCAA offers after year 1 on The Farm.

Do we know he "tried"? Or was it that UCLA called his agent (or him) and offered to talk about the position? I know I have fielded many calls (and actually taken a few interviews) when I had absolutely no intention of leaving my present position. If they were able to change my mind, there would have to have been a real good reason/offer. As it happened, there never was.
