Thanks to everyone for such thoughtful replies, particularly Goose for his direct replies. This is really changing my thinking. I like sports (channeling Kavanaugh in a non-political way). I like the teams I support, financially, but more so the old-fashioned support as in rooting for success, which means to win more often than not. I had been finding myself torn between letting it go because the winning is fewer and farther between lately and  it is getting unseemly in many respects; and knowing that being an athlete is a lot of work, so shouldn't they just be paid for it?  So, I have a lot of food for thought as I watch both my schools (other than the Stanford women) watch the tournaments on TV.
