I'm slightly enthused for three reasons.
First, because the ACC is a noticeably better basketball conference than the Pac-12 and it will help Stanford's basketball recruiting on a national scale. Stanford will be a better basketball team as a result.
Second, because I think the ACC is a lesser football conference than the Pac-12. And like you, I was an original Pac-8 fan...the other four? Meh.
But I think we'll do well. I think we'll use the time zone difference to our advantage. We have a home game against TCU at 10:30 p.m., body clock time for TCU players. Conversely, Stanford has a home game against Syracuse at 1:30 and an away game at Note Dame at 12:30 body clock time...that's good for us. It'll be interesting to see how the other games get scheduled. If Stanford beats TCU, which I think is entirely possible...and TCU was 5-7 with an opening-game loss against Colorado last year...the other ACC teams are going to sit up and take notice, and we might have difficulty scheduling evening home games.
And third, because the ACC too will pass. When the conferences realign again in the middle of the next decade, everyone is going to decide that they hate the travel and like the regional rivalries.
