Tonight marks the beginning of the Troy Taylor's second season. This is an era that begins in a far different college football landscape than at the start of the Shaw era. We are strangely now a member of the Atlantic Coast Conference. This season marks the first time there will be a 12 team playoff to determine the FBS National Champion. Many FBS teams today consist of a majority of players that started their college football careers at other schools. NIL has created a situation in which booster groups are allowed to offer top players millions of dollars to play for their school. Combined with the liberal transfer rules, college football has become what many call a professional farm league for the NFL. These developments have disappointed many traditional college football fans, and even driven some to stop following and watching college football.
Some on this board have questioned whether it is appropriate for Stanford to continue to participate in college football. Some have suggested that Stanford should drop down to a lower division. The developing issue of CTE adds more uncertainty to the future of Stanford football.
With all that said, tonight our team straps on their shoulder pads, snaps up their chin straps, and takes on the TCU Horned Frogs at Stanford Stadium. As an alum and a long time fan of Stanford football, I will be eagerly cheering on our team and hoping to see a victory tonight. GO CARD!
