Among the unseeded teams, Stanford played UC Davis (W 1-0), UNC (L 1-2), and NC State (T, 0-0).
Not a record that would have you believe that they can advance very far in the tournament. At least they get one home match.
On one hand, they should have beaten SMU and NC St and tied Denver. On the other hand, they finished out the year with 1 win, 4 losses and 3 ties. Frankly, Clemson beat them badly in the ACC tournament even though the score was only 1:0.
So no I am not very optimistic either, though on any given night this team could win or lose against any tournament team. I just don’t think they can win 5 games in a row based on their end season form. That is basically what I said last year when they made it the round of 8 and lost to Clemson.
