If this comes to fruition for undergrads it is being driven by Stanford administration at the highest level. There is no way the admissions department culture would willingly volunteer to this type of turn-around.
I don't see how the athletic department can have any control over the admissions of grad students. Most of admissions for grad students is done by department professors and administrators. They do not give any extra admissions merit for being able to carry an oblong ball on a grass field.
Based on what I'm reading on this board, changes are happening at lightning speed.
The post-bacc program would be a way to get around grad school admissions and also turn around decisions quickly.
