Stone Age? Let me tell you about mine. I arrived in 1983 and landed at Donner. Not knowing the difference I thought it was an average dorm (as I thought all would be at Stanford) since my only point of reference was a dorm at Illinois Champagne-Urbana when I visited my brother.
Then I started visiting other dorms and saw that not all dorms were made equal. Come "draw" time, I put Storey as my top choice along with some of the brand new dorms at governor's corner.
Alas, it was not meant to be. I had awful draws all three years and was relegated to living in Stern Hall ALL 4 years that I was a student.
Back then, I recall that the incoming freshman class was close to 1600 and the overall number was 6500. Some rough math taking into consideration that students were guaranteed housing 3 out of their 4 years, I'll estimate that there was housing for 3 classes (1600 x 3 = 4800) plus half of the remaining class (1600 x 0.50 = 800) to give a total of 5600.
If all students are guaranteed 4 years today, Stanford must have built ~ 1500 more dorm spaces in the last 40 years which seems completely plausible.
How long before Stanford starts building graduate dorms in Redwood City to reassign their on campus spaces to undergraduates? There can be a Marguerite shuttle taking students back and forth every 30 minutes to Stanford.
