Personally, I struggle to see how revenue sharing (AKA paying athletes to play sports in college) constitutes a charitable donation.  Maybe the "additional scholarships" but the rest seems like a stretch of the spirit of the charitable deduction even if the letter of the law is not violated.

Guess: when we donate to Stanford athletics, that’s a donation to Stanford. Tax deductible. Maybe revenue sharing falls under the same umbrella.
