They probably had trouble selling seats around the tunnel.  101 certainly got emptier in recent years.  So now they want to move the students to seats they can't fill and attempt to sell the shadier seats in the 105 corner.  What a joke.

They're having trouble selling seats anywhere in the stadium.

I suspect this is more about optics for TV, having SOMEONE sitting on the sunny side instead of just empty stands and having cheering fans around the team entering/exiting the field.

Those sunny side seats are also in the background during a lot of the broadcast, so having them empty all game long was a bad look.   The students may or may not show up but at least the school can put LSJUMB in some of those seats.    

Another benefit is that when the band was on the shady side it was really hard to hear the band if you were in almost any area of the shady side's upper tier.   Moving LSJUMB will allow more alums to see and hear the band, which hopefully will improve the stadium environment. 

Moving people around will never make everyone happy, but this is something the program needed to try given the projected win-loss record this season.

FWIW the team's schedule does not really have any daytime games, so I suspect the worries about the wok will not really be an issue.
