Montana won the Big Sky championship last season and, despite losing 10 players, is the pre-season favorite to repeat. They have opened the season with a 106-41 win over Northwest Indian College and a 73-59 win over Ottawa University of Arizona.
Starters for both games were:
#0 Money Williams 6'4"/211 Jr G from Oakland HS (a state champion at Damian Lillard's alma mater). Led the Grizzlies in scoring (13.2ppg) and assists (3.1apg) last season and was named 2nd team All-Big Sky. He is the pre-season pick as Big Sky MVP.
#32 Te'Jon Sawyer 6'8"/255 Gr F from SF and Salesian College Prep via Cal Baptist and SF City College. The only other returning Grizzly, he scored 9.4ppg and pulled down 4.1rpg last season.
#24 Kenyon Aguino 6'7"/222 Fr F - a 3-time New Mexico Gatorade Player of the Year and a part of 4 straight state championship teams.
#4 Tyler Thompson 6'6"/195 RFr G
#8 Tyler Isaak 6'4"/190 Jr G from Danville (San Ramon Valley HS) via Cal Baptist & Citrus College.
Looks to me like Stanford has a possibility of some real depth this season. It will be interesting to see the development of that depth and how deep a rotation will be used during the non-league portion of the schedule. Hopefully they will pile up a lot of wins along the way.
Agreed. This team is probably capable of far more improvement over the season than last years team. Ebuka is alreay an eye opener and Okpara has clearly improved over last year and the two have some synergy. When Ebuka made a drive and had no shot, instead of turning it over he seemed to know exactly where Okpara would be and hit him in the hands for a lay in. That is a two we shouldl be very glad to have.
Benny is Benny and we know what he will give us. Big question is whether the two DII/III transfer have what it takes to contribute at this level. This very small sample says probably yes, but just how big that contribution can be is hard to say and it remains to see how fast our Belgian big man develops. It will be a long seaon but probably the most interesting to watch in a number of years. Ebuka is worth buyinig a ticket.
