I believe this is the first time that has happened at Stanford since before the 2009-10 season (if ever). With so many scorers, we can have a player like Alex score 0 points and it barely registers a blip in the team's productivity. It'll be interesting to see how this plays out this season. For the moment, I'm much less scared of key players committing fouls than I have been in recent years.
That said, Lara Somfai is one of only 2 players in the country with two double-doubles against Division 1 opponents already. I might worry if Somfai fouled out.
Interesting! And well done, Somfai!
Also, a bit surprising re: the rest of the country? Is it a slow season for double-double machines? I feel like there are more of them usually.
(I don’t mean to diminish Somfai’s accomplishment in any way, I just am used to hearing about other teams’ star players lighting up the stat sheets early on in the season. Nice that the player making waves is on our team!)
A lot of teams have only played 1 or 2 games so far this season and there have been a lot of "cupcake" opening games for many teams. I suspect Somfai will have plenty of company once the fully D1 part of the OOC season is in full swing.
