I think USMNT = ....Stanford. Or possibly Uruguay = Stanford. Not sure. I like the USMNT = Stanford because then U.S.C. = Mexico.
The reason for the ND = England comparison is that both have rather elevated views about their historical and present importance relative to performance. Also both have had memorable failures as coaches -- which you can't say about other power programs. Who among us really remembers Ted Tollner and Bill Callahan? Who among us remembers Charlie Weis and/or the Wally w/ a Brolly? Exactly.
