If we're talking futebol analogies, the better one for Stanford is ManCity with U$C playing the role of Manchester United, complete with poser front-running fans. ManCity has a history of glory and championships in the distant past, and was even relegated to the lower division, much like Stanford playing WAC-quality ball under Walt Harris. Now with much wealthier benefactors (Abu Dhabi in ManCity's case and John Arrillaga in Stanford's), ManCity plays competitively at the highest levels. Even winning Premier League (like Stanford-winning the Pac-12), with its sights set on the Champions League title and the FIFA Club World Cup (BCS National Championship).
