MIT does have both lightweight men's rowing and lightweight women's rowing, one of the rare schools that sponsors lightweight rowing teams for both genders. (I think there are four?) MIT does sponsor a lot of varsity sports, but mostly at the D3 level.
The U23 world championships were great for Stanford and a few other top women's rowing programs. Out of thirteen total U23 national teamers across four nations, eight athletes won ten medals (six of them gold). That's right up there with the best. And one of Stanford's best athletes, Celia Dupre, wasn't even at U23s because she'll be rowing for Switzerland at senior world championships in a few weeks. I'd have to check if there are others doing the same...
