At his age (27) he would be at least 31 if he were to stay four years, get a degree etc.  He pretty clearly doesn't have that path in mind and has only a year or two to get to the NFL, so he'd be a short-term player and probably a lousy fit at Stanford.  For what he seems to want to do, Alabama is the right kind of place.  Not the same situation as when he graduated from high school
