TEs were pretty minimally productive from 2008-10, at least relative to 2011-12. In 2010 four of the top five receivers were non-TEs (and Doug Baldwin was 2nd team all Pac-12); in 2009 three of the top five were non-TEs, but Whalen and Owusu accounted for 1600 yards (of 2700 possible yards); 2008 was also 3/5, though without as heavy a skew.
While Andrew Luck was throwing to the wideouts (accounting for greater absolute production), why doesn't this effect wideouts and non-wideouts alike (which is about greater relative production)?
The "talent" question is basically unanswerable -- but then again, considering all four names you named are now drawing paychecks in the NFL despite relatively modest regard coming into the program, maybe it would be smart to reinstate the coach who got them there?
