Pat Haden didn't just fall off the turnip truck. 

How do we know this? Can't say I'm a close follower of all things T.rojan, but there hasn't been much that tells me Haden's a sharp operator. (His hiring of Kevin O'Neill for basketball coach suggests the exact opposite, actually.) (EDIT: to be far, there hasn't been a whole lot to suggest he isn't a sharp operator either. He's kind of neutral.) 

At any rate, for hot seat coach it's all about upping the odds. If the odds are increased, however infinitesimally, that you can hoodwink your boss that way you do it.

Re: Redrum's question about whether K.iffin collects his pay anyway: well, if he was hired under the Tedford Plan, yeah he would. I presume he has a buyout of some sort, in which case it's financially worthwhile to actually collect his salary, to say nothing of what I presume are pretty nice expense-account-related perks.
