I'm still finding it hard to believe that there's a lucrative deal out there for someone like Harris. There are hundreds of college players graduating every year, many of whom have no plans for income outside of their sport, competing for spots on teams. Only 60 players will make an NBA roster. Maybe a hundred more to the NBADL. The rest flood the international market which is often capped on how many international players can be on the team (I watched a game in Seoul a few years back and iirc, you could only have 2-3 non Koreans on the court at a time.)

Every time I've watched a game overseas, I've done an internet search on the US players on the court and they always had reasonable strong NCAA careers but just not good enough to make the NBA. I've never seen a player with an NCAA career scoring average below 2 points.

According to eHow.com, the starting salary in Euroleague is about $100K. D-League is less than $60K.

But when you're young, have no student loans to pay, and just looking for adventure and travel, I can see the draw of giving it a go. I can also imagine you end up in some not so attractive places if you're in one of the lower leagues.

We're ultimately saying the same thing. Yeah, if Harris wants to play he'll have to go to Croatia or Taiwan or something. Yeah, he won't be able to land the really sweet gigs in Spain, Italy, France (which is 200+k net plus free apartment and/or car), barring a shocking development growth spurt. But the opportunity is there if he is sufficiently determined and indifferent as to destination.
