My daughter just graduated from UP and moved into an apartment a few miles away. (Gainfully employed....woot!)Â A few questions and comments:
Despite perfect chamber of commerce weather over graduation weekend in early May, it does rain in Portland. Cars do need to be washed periodically.
The cost of water doesn't necessarily have much to do with how much it rains in any particular region, as water supplies could be hundreds of miles away. I didn't drive up into the Bull Run Watershed to check, and while it was a pretty benign winter, I don't know about any drought.
I am not really familiar with garden hose rental rates in the area.
However, if she gets to keep the hose and it is a decent hose, she may have come out ahead. (Fred Meyer is where most UP kids would go to buy a hose and their website sucks. But the absolute cheapest hose at Lowe's is $25.)
I think other students can wash cars on campus. (I used to wash my car in front of Mirelees and I didn't even live there. Once you know where the hose bibs are......)
Who the hell was watching some kid wash her car?
Who the hell turned her in?
$20 and a coupon will get your car detailed in some places.
How much did the NCAA spend to avoid $20 of 'illicit' benefit to one golfer?
The NCAA is idiotic.

Yeah, I just stare at my desk, but it looks like I'm working .I'd say in a given week I probably only do about fifteen minutes of real, actual, work. Peter Gibbons
