The transfers of Glyn Milburn and Chase Beeler are remarkably similar. Glyn Milburn was a top recruit out of Santa Monica High School. He was also a top student, and he wanted to go to Stanford. Milburn's stepfather wanted him to go to Oklahoma, which was then coached by Barry Switzer. The NCAA rules required a parent to cosign his letter of intent as he was under 18. (A fair rule? That's subject to discussion.) Because of this, Milburn ended up at Oklahoma. He opted to transfer after a year to his first choice. In a side note, the celebrated "bad boy" of Oklahoma in the late 1908's, Brian Bosworth, wrote an autobiography titled, "The Boz", describing in part the behavior in the football dorms at Oklahoma (drugs and yes, gunplay, were involved). He did mention Milburn in a couple of lines, saying Milburn didn't appreciate what was going on and didn't fit in there. I can understand .
Chase Beeler was a top recruit as well as a National Merit Finalist in Jenks HS, which is a suburb of Tulsa, OK. OU made a big push for him - their university president, a former US senator, personally recruited him. He wanted Stanford from the beginning, but there was too much pressure from the family to stay close to home. After a year at OU, he said it wasn't the right fit.
