Despite many attempts, I've never been able to time shift successfully. Either the recording didn't work or I find out the result inadvertently. One particular example comes to mind, back in Singapore. At the time I was a Broncos fan because of all the ex-Stanford players. (you have to find other teams to root for when you are born into Bengals fandom). So the Broncos are in the AFC championship game. The game was on ESPN Asia tape delay. I spent the whole day avoiding the Internet and my American colleagues. I'm watching the game and during half-time, they show an ad for the Super Bowl XXXII: "Denver v Green Bay". I lost my sh!t. I immediately picked up the phone to call ESPN and left a profanity-laced voice mail.
I actually thought about time shifting the Arizona State game because I'd be at a bachelor party, but knowing my bad luck with time-shifting I didn't bother. The thought occurred to me that if I was ever going to be able to time shift successfully it would be at this bachelor party. All I had to do was survive a train ride back home without checking the score. Funny enough if I had tried to time-shift, it would have failed at the night club where the ex-Stanford players would have surely given away the result.
