I can't think of a precedent. One aspect of the situation is probably unprecedented though: Texas being able to pay what a successful NFL coach makes.  The other things I would say are, a) Harbaugh is different, b) the Niners have a lot of knuckleheads on their team and he may be chafing at the lack of personnel control, and c) given how long his Dad coached in college he probably does not view college coaching as beneath human dignity like some would. Still, it is long odds and strange Herbstreit would just throw it out there like that. Â
