I'm not sure I know anyone who has dismissed Sherman's rant as inarticulate.
Rather, it's the force of the anger displayed at a perceived slight (what, the 49ers offended him by taking a shot toward his side of the field?) and his utter inability to be a gracious winner that have rankled many. Add to that his self-aggrandizing at the end of hard-fought team victory and surely you can understand why many have a negative opinion about him (As an aside, Ali's gloating came in an individual sport, whereas football is perhaps the quintessential team sport - I think that is a significant difference when you start drawing comparisons). You can be gracious without being banal - I don't know why many here are conflating the two.
Finally, I've lived in this country since I came to Stanford as an undergrad, but I have yet to understand people's desire to drag race into every contentious issue. You do realize that there are colors beyond black and white, and many of them are here on the Cardboard.
