Speaking of race, class, generational differences, etc., I find it interesting to compare and contrast reactions to Sherman to reactions to other controversial actions involving former Stanford athletes and coaches. Maybe most interesting is that a couple of the harshest critics of Sherman's Sunday antics were big time defenders of Mike Montgomery in the incident where he shoved Crabbe last year. So much so that they not only thought Monty's actions were acceptable, but that they were perfectly appropriate. They thought it was BS that Monty was forced to apologize, after he initially defended his actions in the postgame presser.Â
