The only consistent negative I see (you have to go to other boards to find them, but some are hilarious) is the idea that these kids value some sort of hero worship or elevated status if they go somewhere else. That Stanford's student body or fan base won't value players the way "we" will.

I actually agree with this and think it helps Shaw's message. We don't expect our players greatest achievement to be playing football for Stanford, but to take advantage of the opportunity to do more.
