I think the point is that until Thomas Stanford never had success in recruiting an academically oriented + being an elite HS Texas player vs the Longhorns...

UT did not offer Luck, Taylor, Dunn, Bookman,  etc, etc...

only one I know of is Thomas... and he didn't happen to have UT among his set of finalists (perhaps because they coincidentally  had fallen off their top football perch)

Anthony Bookman had an offer from Texas. In fact, he committed to Texas, then decommitted and chose Stanford.  http://www.sfgate.com/sports/article/Sta...024250.php

Eric Heitmann also had an offer from Texas.

I'm not sure about Damon Dunn, but I know he was recruited by almost everyone.
