Muir did NOT say that the team simply had to make the tournament. He made two statements:
- He wants them to be playing "deep into March" which means the second weekend of the tournament. Not just getting in
- He also want them to be contending for a conference title, something Dawkins has completely failed to do in six years
I am going to take Muir at his word. If Stanford bows out in the first round he needs to fire Dawkins. Squeaking in is not good enough. When your best conference record in six years is one game over .500, that's not good enough. Winning less than one-third of conference games decided by 5 points or less is not good enough - and is one of the principal reasons for the other issues. Blowing over a dozen leads in the final five minutes is not good enough either.
